Positive Futures Launch- Mural unveiling – Oct 2005

unveiling of community art project at St Hughes Estate, Anerleypositive_futures.
An exciting three-year project for local young people will be formally launched on Thursday (Oct 27th) with the unveiling of a colourful wall mural by Crystal Palace Manager, Iain Dowie. The mural was produced by local children and teenagers from the St Hugh’s estate with the support of the Residents’ Association and depicts the place of the estate in the wider community. The artwork will be displayed on the side of a garage where it will form a focal point on the estate and help to give a sense of pride to the young people who live there. The unveiling will be followed by a launch event for ‘Positive Futures’ in the Community Hall where local people will be invited to dance demonstrations, football skills competitions, information stalls and much more. “The three-year ‘Positive Futures’ project will be a real boost to the Penge and Anerley wards, giving sports and social activities to children aged 10-19 and involving a number of different organisations,” said Broomleigh’s Community Projects Officer, Liz Chambers. “The launch event will give Broomleigh a great opportunity to find out from the young people themselves exactly what types of activities they would be interested in seeing set up through the project,” she added. The St Hugh’s Residents’ Association has been heavily involved in the recent Street Art workshops with the help of trained artists from Positive Arts and this along with the support of Crystal Palace Football Club and Bromley Mytime should see a real benefit in the area over the next few years.
