‘Action for Impact’ event with Positive Arts and BELS and Crystal Palace Football Club

On Thursday 3rd Feb 2012 Positive Arts, BELS, CYDT and CPFC hosted the ‘Action for Impact’ event at Selhurst Park to showcase the positive activities being done by Croydon’s youth and the range of services available to them in the borough. Over 100 professionals, workers and young people attended and got involved in the workshops and presentations which added to a very positive and inspiring day. The proceedings kicked off with a speech from one on CPFC’s owners and the head of Croydon Integrated Youth Services. Then Positive Arts and the other organisations ran a workshop with the guests, where they inputted into a piece of artwork for display within the stadium. The theme of the work was peoples’ views and feelings of Croydon’s youth and what it is like to be a young person living there. Participants were asked to write related words and statements in bright colours and different styles into the buildings creating a doodle pad effect.

It was a very successful day and hopefully the start of a positive future for Croydon!

We have been back working with BELS (Business and Education London South) over two days to create some more fantastic canvases which will go on display at a huge, multi agency event in association with Crystal Place Football Club. The theme of the artwork was young people views, feelings and experiences of living in Croydon. The workshops were really successful with a lot of in-depth discussions and some amazing resuts!

‘Response to the Riots’ a street art project for BELS, Croydon

Positive Arts at Diana Award Anti- Bullying Conference

We have just been part of an action packed conference in Canary Wharf for the Diana Award!

300 Anti-Bullying Ambassadors from across the UK participated in a number of workshops including dance, drama, graffiti art, and poetry. The aim of the first part of the day was to find creative ways of tackling bullying working with schools across the UK. Twist and Pulse, actor Will Poulter and Rachel Furner lead the workshops.

‘Urban Jungle’ mural, Bow, E3

We have just completed a huge mural in a ball court on an estate in Bow, E3. We were commissioned by Apollo construction to create the artwork with the local kids over the half term. The wall has a fun, sporty, green theme, featuring the local buildings and the city of London. As you can imagine the local’s love it!

New mural on hoardings, Alfred Gardens, Barking

We have just completed our first project with Apollo Construction Company. We painted a mural on their site hoardings at Alfred Gardens, Barking, Essex. All the community were out in support and loads of the local kids helped us create the lovely vibrant artwork, which is a huge improvement to the dull green hoardings. Another very successful community project!

New artwork on the windows of the Turnaround Centre, Croydon

Some exciting new artwork by young people from the Healthy Living Project art group (facilitated by Positive Arts) was unveiled at the Turnaround building, Croydon. The last 2 groups have created canvases based on their positive aspirations for the future, which have been turned into actual size see-through stickers to cover all the street level windows. Th effect is great, especially at night time when they look like neon signs!

Also on the night we showed the original canvases and other projects such as the outside mural, and some brilliant clay works. The y/p came with their parents and carers and they were presented with a certificate of achievement from the head of Croydon Social services. A great night was had by all!

Mural for Comber Grove Primary School

We have just finished a great outdoor mural for Comber Grove Primary School in Camberwell, London. It is on a huge playground wall and depicts the different environments and climates around the world, showing the different animals and flowers/fauna. A selection of pupils from years 5 and 6 helped us over a week to produce the artwork. The whole school was very happy and excited by the finished result.

“It’s made such a creative and bright difference to our playground! It’ll also be able to be used for lots of teaching activities”.

‘I personally found you and Jamie really flexible and easy-going to work with. The children involved will remember it for a long time and hopefully consider using spray cans in a positive way in the future!’
